Question 1

What is methylene blue?

Accepted Answer

Methylene blue is a synthetic compound that has been used in medicine for over 130 years. Originally used as a dye and antimalarial agent, it is now recognized for its potential benefits as a nootropic and mitochondrial support supplement. Pharmaceutical-grade methylene blue, like that offered by Better Life Lab, meets strict USP purity standards for safe supplementation.

Question 2

Is methylene blue safe to take as a supplement?

Accepted Answer

When taken at recommended low doses (0.5-2mg/kg) and sourced from pharmaceutical-grade suppliers, methylene blue has a well-established safety profile. It is important to use only USP-grade methylene blue that has been third-party tested for purity and is free from industrial contaminants. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.

Question 3

What are the benefits of methylene blue for brain health?

Accepted Answer

Research suggests methylene blue may support brain health by enhancing mitochondrial function in neurons, supporting cellular energy production, acting as an antioxidant to protect against oxidative stress, and potentially supporting memory and cognitive function. It works at the mitochondrial level to optimize cellular respiration in brain cells.

Question 4

What is pharmaceutical grade methylene blue?

Accepted Answer

Pharmaceutical-grade methylene blue meets United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards for purity, potency, and quality. Unlike industrial or chemical-grade methylene blue, pharmaceutical-grade is manufactured in GMP-certified facilities, tested by independent third-party laboratories, and is free from heavy metals, impurities, and contaminants that may be present in lower-grade products.

Question 5

How do you take methylene blue drops?

Accepted Answer

Better Life Lab Methylene Blue Drops are typically taken sublingually (under the tongue) or mixed with water. The recommended starting dose is usually 1-2 drops, taken once daily in the morning. The drops can temporarily stain your mouth and tongue blue, which is normal and fades within a few hours. Always follow the dosing instructions on the product label.

Question 6

Can methylene blue improve cognitive function?

Accepted Answer

Emerging research indicates methylene blue may support cognitive function by enhancing mitochondrial efficiency in brain cells, supporting neuronal energy metabolism, and providing neuroprotective antioxidant effects. While more clinical studies are needed, preliminary evidence suggests potential benefits for memory, focus, and overall cognitive performance.

Question 7

What is the recommended dosage of methylene blue?

Accepted Answer

For supplementation purposes, methylene blue is typically taken at low doses ranging from 0.5 to 2 mg per kilogram of body weight. Better Life Lab recommends starting with the lowest effective dose and consulting with a healthcare professional to determine the appropriate amount for your individual needs. Our products include precise dosing instructions on each label.

Question 8

Are there any side effects of methylene blue?

Accepted Answer

At recommended supplemental doses, methylene blue is generally well-tolerated. Common effects include temporary blue-green discoloration of urine and mild staining of the mouth when taken as drops. Rare side effects may include mild nausea or headache. Methylene blue should not be taken with certain medications, particularly SSRIs and MAOIs. Always consult your doctor before use, especially if you take prescription medications.
